Donnie and I met in the Summer of 2010, I was 14 and he was 15. My best friend at the time had met him the summer before. I went camping with her that year and met the love of my life. We started talking and I was instantly attracted to him, we didn’t spend many days apart that week. We didn’t go to the same school, in fact, we lived about 30 minutes away from each other. I truly didn’t think this relationship would last due to the circumstances, but we made it.
I became hated in my school because I “stole” some popular girls “man.” He wasn’t dating anyone and talked to multiple girls he met camping. I laugh looking back at this, but at the time it hurt. I hardly had any true friends in high school and frankly didn’t want any. I focused on school, sports, and my relationship. Throughout High School, there was many events and drama that occurred. We broke up for about a week and it was the worst thing in the world. We didn’t tell anyone we were back together until I showed up at his house while he was hunting. They all freaked out and were so excited that I was back. Ever since that week period, I realized that I didn’t ever want to lose him. Our relationship grew stronger because of it and I am so thankful.
Donnie graduated two years before I did. His plan was to sign up for the Coast Guard. I was heartbroken and cried often. This plan changed when he had a long wait list and another career path arose. He became a Laborer on the pipeline and he flourished. We spent many days apart from each other but seeing him again made it all worth it. It wasn’t easy but, you fall in love all over again.
I went to college in the area and planned on receiving a Bachelor’s in Athletic Training and a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. I had a “mid-life” crisis. I was going to be in school for 7 years, 7! I would have been 27 by the time I was all done. I didn’t want to put my life on hold for that long, so I switched paths. I switched to the online courses they offered and received a Bachelor’s in Business Administration 2 weeks prior to getting married, at the age of 21.
We now are traveling together while he works I spend my time blogging, crafting and being a housewife. I love it, but I can’t wait to expand our family and become a mom.
How did you are your SO meet? I would love to hear about it.
